Basti Kriya
There are two forms of Basti described in Hatha Yoga, jala (water) and sthala (dry). Both basti practices involve the cleansing of the colon. The practice of basti is considered to be beneficial for balancing tridoshas and dhatus and to purify mind and senses.
It is also known to improve digestion and overall well-being. Regular practice of basti helps establish a healthy digestive fire, strengthens the colon, and removes toxins from the body.
Basti helps to tone the abdominal muscles, improve peristalsis, and promote the absorption of nutrients. It is a rejuvenative treatment that helps rebalance the doshas.
The warm medicated enemas used in basti help to relax the colon, relieve constipation, and stimulate bowel movements. Basti is known to calm the mind and reduce anxiety while promoting clarity and focus.
By cleansing and detoxifying the colon, basti helps to remove metabolic waste, improve bowel regularity, and support a healthy, balanced body and mind. The therapeutic effects of basti include reduced inflammation, pain relief, and improved immunity.
